gtx 980 FTW to gtx 980ti - worth it for $100 + shipping?

Both evga cards. the reason its $100 + shipping is because it uses EVGA Step up program. my current card has coil whine while folding and less while gaming and I would like the 3 DP. are the cards going to perform similarly.

The 980ti performs better so I would get it.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I'd go for it, but cause I wanted it not cause I needed it.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

The Sayu Yagami to Light Yagami, but actually relevant to the plot and a decent character

Why not, the 980 FTW is about a 550 dollar card and the 980 ti is a 650 dollar card, so you are basically not losing anything, in fact if you already used the thing youd be getting a good deal, because god knows no one is gonna give you 550 for a used 980 now.

Wouldn't it be the difference between 460 and 650? I thought EVGA made you show your receipt and they went off that price, or is it just the MSRP difference regardless of what you paid?

I have no idea. I uploaded my invoice, registered and everything; the total Step Up cost is like $124.46 with shipping.

Edit: reading through their FAQ on the Step Up process it says the price might be adjusted at a later date based on the invoice uploaded. So I might get charged more, I'll wait and see.

I'd be interested to know if they make you pay the full difference, I bet they do, in which case your good deal on the ftw went for nothing.

I got a great deal on an 980 sc and I'm considering the same thing, which is why I'm interested.

Are you actually unsatisfied with the performance of your 980 or are you just looking for the newest thing?

Also how the fuck are you shipping it and paying $100? If you're in US or CAN it should be much less.

the $100 I'm guessing is the combined cost of the Step Up + shipping cost; which  adds up I think. I could be mistaken though.

I'm hoping they only have me pay the initial stated difference. If I do end up having to pay more I may consider keeping my 980. It all depends.

100 + however much shipping costs + tax = total cost
