Would a windows 7 key be valid for windows 10 upgrade if im upgrading from windows 8.1?

Because my windows 8.1 key is temporary up till i graduate from my polytechnic

So can i upgrade to windows 10 from 8.1 and change the key in the windows 10 from my 8.1 key to my win 7 key?

If it's the same as my college key the actual key and ISO download being able to be seen is what's temporary..the actual key itself doesn't expire as I don't believe MS has temporary Windows OS keys that expire after a certain time. Once the time expires on the key, the website that you got the key from will just no longer allow you to see it again or download the ISO, that's all that expires.

@xnoobftw No....you need to install windows 7 and get the Win10 reserve thing-a-ma-do....I just got my confirmation thing-a-ma-do from windows update and i run windows 7.

Hmmm but i dont see any expiration date on my windows 8.1 key though.... And if i wanna revert back to windows 7 i'll have to reinstall everything T.T

There is no real expiration for your win8.1 key but support may become non-existent like with XP. Why don't you make an image of your OS now or before you update to win10 and save it somewhere so you can always put that back on if you don't like win10. Note that the Win10 comes as an .iso file as well.

Not sure as i have not updated yet. I do think it will be like windows7 and 8 with the option to reformat the HDD or just do the install and all your old stuff might be in the windows.old folder.

What i hope i can do is get rid of the bloatware like Cortana, that is my main concern.

I assume their dreamspark keys like what I got when I was a Comp-Sci major, if so, then yes. Heck, I got so many keys from that program that I may have broke ToS and sold a few. I still have some left over to sell to friends and family in case they ever need one.

Cortana will be built in, not in addition to.

**Edit**

Cortana replaces the search function for Win10. Is supposed to be a 'personal assistant' that will be non-removable.

I wouldn't worry about it to much, she never bothered me during anything I did on the preview unless I set an alarm or reminder.

I thought this was common knowledge.

I knew of doing it, just never crossed my mind, just did an image to an external drive then back again.

Any Windows 7/8/8.1, pirated versions included, can be updated to valid Windows 10. Microsoft said it long time ago, that even illegal versions of Windows can have free and legitimate update to Windows 10.

You probably can't. They normally limit the keys to one each per person, but if you just got a windows 8.1 key, you can probably still get a key for 7 just for the heck of it. They are all getting upgrades to 10 anyway haha.

The reason I was able to get so many keys is that the college I went to had a lot of branch campuses too, and I took a lot of online classes from professors at those branches. Every single one of our branches had a seperate dreamspark account, so every time I took a class from a different branch I got a new dreamspark account and was able to get another round of keys.
