970 SLI is MUCH better than a 980 for the price to performance.

we dont know his PSU and CPU we need more specs

I have a simple question. I've got 700 bucks for a GPU and I was wondering if the GTX 970 on SLI would be better than a single 980?

what CPU you got? PSU?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Two 970's will outperform a 980, but I'm an advocate for single GPU's.

970 SLI > Single 980. (Except in games that don't support SLI)

Games will always support SLI. If there isn't a proper SLI profile on launch, there will be one added within a week based on the games that  have launched without them.

I would go for the 980.

  • Some games don't support SLI which then you would receive the power of one 970
  • You need a motherboard that supports SLI
  • Power consumption is less with the 980
  • Heat output is less with a 980
  • The 980 also leaves more room for upgrades in the future
  • Remember the 970 SLI costs almost $100 more
  • Most games are very glitchy with SLI

Provided you have an SLI mobo and a 600w+ PSU, SLI 970 is the way to go.

If you don't have SLI mobo, but have a 750w+ PSU, R9 295x2 is the way to go.

If you can't reach either.... just wait for AMD's new lineup of cards.
