NZXT HALE 90 PSU not used since Aug 2013.

Phentos
Go to solution Solved by Dzzope,

As long as it was dry, thats a solidly built unit. Should be fine.. Just try it out.. NZXT are very good, if it kills other parts, get in touch with them (I've seen the lengths they have gone to when a unit took out other components)

Due to living in university dorms and with friends (no space), I've had my rig in storage since August 2013. I'm moving into an apartment now, which now enables me to finally set up my rig and start upgrading it.

However, a friend has brought to my attention the possibility of my PSU's capacitors possibly deteriorating and/or drying up in the time that it's been in storage.

The PSU is, again, the NZXT HALE 90 850W model. 80+ Gold rating.

If this is so, then I might as well chuck the computer back into storage, as I can't afford to replace both the GPU (GTX 580, inevitable upgrade) and the PSU for the next several months.

You could try just plugging in the PSU, but I don't think that the PSU is dead as long as it was stored without any kind of humidity

I live in a fairly arid place, and the computer's been sealed up in the case box for all that time. Liberal amounts of duct tape used even. Box was also sitting on top of my desk, so it was never on the floor of the unit.

I think it should be fine.

Thanks for posting on my previous thread about this. My friend just let me know of this potential problem, and instead of bumping that thread, I figured it'd be more pertinent to post this here.
