Which AMD processor to get?

Go to solution Solved by ERSCreeper,

To be honest, I will most likely run it at stock for quite some time then overclock it as required once it starts to become insufficient :P

I would get the 8320 then at a later point if you need to OC, buy a better cooler.

So I've been planning to got 8350 all the way this whole time but I've been thinking about it and gaming isn't really CPU intensive with the few exceptions (*cough* minecraft *cough* skyrim) so would getting the 8320, 6350 or 6300 be a viable option?

Any of those processor would be great for gaming, it all depends on how much you are willing to spend

8320 or 6350 would be viable option.

Probably gonna get a 6350 then :p

we dont know how many cores future games will use, but if they use 8, go for 8320 if 6 - 6350 :)

unfortunatelly i dont have crystall ball. i suggest you go with 6350 so you got balance between powerful cores and number of cores.

obviously hyper 212 evo with it :D or any other cheap cooler that is better and quieter than stock

We do know that both the Xbox One and the PS4 will both be running 8-Core APUs. I would recommend at least the 8320 since most games will be developed on consoles. If the 8350 is still an option I would go that way since it will be unlocked just in case an OC is needed down the road.

Grab a 6300 and a cooler master hyper 212 evo. The 6350 is just faster stock clocks and better stock fan, you will want to OC either one anyways.

Apparently the 6350s are not only higher stocked but higher binned similar to 8320 vs 8350

Okay I've kinda narrowed it down, 6350 + Cooler Master Seidon 120M or 8320 + Hyper 212 evo?

I heard rumors that they were but didn't want to say anything until I was for sure about it. Either way both of them are going to OC just fine.

Nope Higher bin.

True but in terms of future proofing pushing those few extra megahertz out can make a difference xD

Maybe an odd question, but why no Haswell chip? Less power consumption, less heat output...

You'll suffer in minecraft once you get some mods and shaders. An Intel part would be better.

A 3570k and a ud3h is still really good if you can get the parts for even 20-30 bucks cheaper than Haswell.

Minecraft is multi-threaded once you add mods so if I was going into that price range I'd most likely go 8350 :p I'm not going Intel sorry.

So much for the LGA 2011 idea :P I would say either the 8320 or 6350 with a nice cooler.

yup xD I said meh I'll just go AMD and get a wayyy better GPU :p i.e. 7970 Ghz Ed.

I'm stuck between this or this.

Minecraft uses two threads. One for everything you see and the other for everything you don't. The more work each of those threads can do in the least amount of time, the better.

The game was meant to be run on old rigs with one or two cores, increasing the amount of work each of those cores can do realllly helps.

Go for like a uhm.. 955BE. That'll do just as well in those games and you'll save almost 100 bucks.

With optifine the multi-threaded render option changes that; regardless I'm barely going to play minecraft xD I've exhausted that game and it's vast collection of mods.
