Visual Studio Community replaces Express.

It is the Visual Studio Professional version but free, so it is a really awesome. Same set of features including extension support (but without MSDN and support, of course)

To be more specific. It is free for:

-> Individuals personal/commercial application - unlimited licenses.

-> Any open source project (even if you are a large company, as long as it is used exclusively used for open source dev) - unlimited licenses

-> Classroom, academic research, and any educational purposes. - unlimited licenses

-> For companies that has < 250 computers and/or < $1 Million US Dollars in annual revenue - You get 5 licenses free for commercial applications.

Basically, it is free for personal usage, or if you want to sale your own software or start a small company it is all free, or school, or working on an open source project in a company.

Visual Studio 2015 is coming real soon! (and yes Community version is there)
