I am looking at Stalker on gog, but is it any good, GOG reviews say its good, but websites like GT say its bad in ways, so what would you suggest?

Also are all the games stand alones or do they need Shadow of Chernobyl?

Thanks

Stalker is a great series, a lot like Fallout, but first person only. They are old and clearly not made on the biggest budget, so modding is kinda necessary to make them truly enjoyable. I played Clear Sky and COP, and I would recommend them.

Call of Pripyat, Clear Sky, and Shadow of Chernobyl are all standalone games.

There's also a free remake of the original Shadow of Chernobyl available called Lost Alpha, but it tends to be glitchy. Still worth playing, I found it to be better than the original, but couldn't get it to run for more than an hour or so before crashing, at which point the game would not re-launch without being re-installed.

STALKER is fun, but it is hard, like NINTENDO HARD. It has a terrible save system, and death can come quickly, so save often. Also make sure to be careful as hell. Oh, and when you're in the sewer the first time, you need to run away from the thing, you'll know when, and what. (not the invisible thing, but the other thing that's scarier)

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Personally I found the STALKER games I played (Call of Pripyat and Shadow of Chernobyl) to be very, very difficult to get into. I have no doubts that there's a good game there somewhere if you're someone who is really into that genre, but I found them exhausting and opaque and didn't really want to put in the time to figure out what I was doing.

It's very much a Niche game so it's hard to predict if you like it.  It's good, but not for everyone.

One of my favourite game series of all time, I would suggest playing them in order but arguably CoP is the best
