Which is better for gaming

Intel

Core i3-3225

FX-8320 has an i3 beat by miles. Motherboard tech for AMD sucks ass though. PCI-e 2.0 on most still. :(

PCI-E 3 doesn't make any difference unless you're running 3 or 4 way Crossfire / SLI and have to use 4X slots.

Apart from that all the other motherboard features are pretty much the same the difference being the boards for AMD are cheaper and usually have more SATA3 ports.

It's still last gen. Less USB 3.0 ports as well. There needs to be better support and more frequent refreshes of AMD motherboards.

... What's last gen? Explain exactly... The number of USB3 ports depends on the board, mine has 6 at the back for example and a front panel header.

The only thing is, there aren't nearly as many new AMD motherboards coming out as there are Intel but this is because AMD is sticking to the same socket, so there is no need for new boards.

8320 by a mile mate.

Are you really not going to buy a product because it has some last gen tech that wont affect performance at all? That's pretty dumb

I'm not going to buy it because I want higher performance than AMD currently offers. I know PCI-e 2.0 is still perfectly fine, but next year PCI-e 4.0 comes out, I just personally prefer to have a current gen feature set.

Overclock that 8320 a bit and you get 8350 which is better for instance then i5 in BF3 and in optimized new games almost same as an i7......Also next gen consoles both have same architecture so expect good performance on it.

AMD Radeon 7870 Gigabyte OC / Intel i5 3570k / ASrock Z77 Pro4 /Samsung 840 EVO 250GB / WD Blue 500GB 7200rpm / Kingston HyperX T1 2x4GB 1600mhz / SeaSonic 520w M12 / Thermaltake v4 Black

New games aren't really utilizing more cores as well as people are making them out to. So the extra cores are quite irrelevant really. Also the next gen consoles are using the Jaguar architecture thats optimized for low power consumption and not the Piledriver architecture in the 8350.

they use the same base architecture. just like how kaveri and tahiti (on the GPU side) both used GCN.

Daily Driver:

Case: Red Prodigy CPU: i5 3570K @ 4.3 GHZ GPU: Powercolor PCS+ 290x @1100 mhz MOBO: Asus P8Z77-I CPU Cooler: NZXT x40 RAM: 8GB 2133mhz AMD Gamer series Storage: A 1TB WD Blue, a 500GB WD Blue, a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB

Intel isn't all that far ahead in the real world. The heat issues of haswell and Ivy bridge mean that once you overclock AMD's chips are by far better than anything Intel has at a similar price point.

And PCI-e 4.0 has nothing to do with the 2.0 or 3.0 boards of today, the fact is that a graphics card really can't take advantage of that extra bandwidth in any meaningful way. They can't even max out a 2.0 slot

Similar Price point? As soon as you go intel, bang for buck goes out the window! For example, an i5 is the recommended processor for gaming. In reality people are better off with an FX8350 for pretty much the same price and cheaper motherboards.

What I'm saying is cards WILL come out in the future that will use that bandwitch, and it's nice to be ready for that.

Cards WILL take up PCI-e 3.0 kinds of bandwidth a long long long time after PCI-e 3.0 isn't a thing anymore. PCI-e 2.0 x8 slots are still more than enough for anything on the market today and graphics performance has dried up alot over the past few years. Unless somebody pulls out something like a triple titan card we wont even max out 2.0 x16 for a while yet.

There is zero point in worrying about PCI-e 3.0 unless your running something like 4 titans on PCI-e 3.0 x4 slots. And if you have that kind of money and haven't invested in a decent board then you really REALLY shouldn't be building your own computers.

+1

As far as I'm concerned (at least with current gen) AMD is all about offering value for money. Why would they bother spending money in R&D to implement something that won't be fully utilized, and then pass that cost over to the customers in higher priced boards?

PC Specs: i7 4770k @ 4.3Ghz 1.165v, Corsair H100i + 2x SP120 PE in Pull, Asus ROG Maximus VII Hero, 8GB Kingston Hyper-X Genesis 1600mhz, X-fire Sapphire HD7950 3GB OC Dual X Edition, Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty, 60GB OCZ Agility 3, 120GB OCZ Agility 3, 480GB Seagate 600 Series, 1TB WD Caviar Black, Corsair TX850, CM Storm Trooper, Win 7 Pro. Peripherals: Microsoft Sidewinder X6 Keyboard, Logitech G700S Mouse, Sennheiser G4ME ONE Headset, Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Speakers. Phone: HTC One M8.
