fps fluctuating on all games

I've just built a new pc and any game i run seems to have huge fluctuations in fps making my game to lag to the point that it becomes almost unplayable.

specs:

intel i5-4690k

sapphire radeon r9 280x

8gb ram

1tb hdd

msi z97 pc mate m/b

windows 7 pro

 

none of my cpu/gpu are overclocked

i do have the newest drivers installed for my gpu

i tried messing with the graphics settings ingame but nothing seems to work

Turn some settings down.. Things like AA will tax your card a lot.

yes i ran CSGO for 2-3 minutes before taking a screenshot. i was in a match not idle

If you don't mind the extra noise you could try to turn up the fanspeeds

but the gpu temperature seems to be fine

Nothing wrong on the GPU side in those images, suspecting CPU side.

You're probably on stock cooling right? I have a feeling you haven't mounted the cooler correctly because these temps should not happen at all. Maybe in Wprime or prime 95 but not while gaming.

i am using stock cooler, ill try to remove the cooler and put it on again

not sure what wprime or prime 95 are but i havent changed anything in the bios for the cpu nor have i overclocked it

Please note that you have to clean the old thermal paste off and apply a brand new bunch

Do I do that before installing the same stock cooler again or when installing an after market cooler?

Its generally fine if you just want to re-adjust the cooler, but when you are installing a new one removing the paste is a must.

Edit: Though if you are going to get a 3rd party cooler keeping the current paste might be fine for now...
