So i have a very weird question to ask you guys. I am looking for some processors to display in the top of a small table i am building. i was just wondering if anyone knew where i could get some maybe dead or broken processors that i could use instead of paying large sums of money. I would prefer an assortment of CPU's but im just not sure where to start looking.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

As for old chips or broken ones check Ebay that's probably the best place.

Thanks for welcoming me and such a fast response. I've kind of snooped around on ebay, but what i find is that the chip is fairly cheap, but then shipping kills me. maybe ill just have to keep looking.

Try to see if you can go to a thrift store nearby and check around for old cheap computers or parts. Here a lot of electronics store has an E-waste bin at the front where there are some old PC's sometimes, ask if you can go through it most times they should be cool with it as long as you don't make a mess.

electronics recycling depots will have tons of old computers getting thrown away

you can take the CPUs out of those and they will probably give them to you for free since its just garbage

Also your local computer shop might have some. At some point there'll be computers that they have to upgrade and it's not worth it to them to try and put a machine together that uses it. Alternatively they may have some nonfunctioning ones floating around too. There's also a small chance you might also get feedback from AMD or Intel if you write and tell them what you have in mind - dead CPUs that are a couple generations old shouldn't be an issue.
