Found hd430's :D

I was digging through some old recording and hifi gear and found a pair of HD430's (early 80's), They were Senns top headphones in their day. They are definitely clear and quality sounding but I think they lack the edge that new technology has brought to headphones. 

 

So the question is, do I throw them out or clean them up and replace the disintegrating foam pads and inserts?

Only because they are not classics,  they are old, they need work.  I must admit though I do love restoring things.

Actually come to think about it they are 30 years old, which makes them technically a vintage 1980's headphone.   Crap that's old. 

I still wouldn't call them classic though.

Alright, I just ordered new foam surrounds so I am cleaning them up.

It's pretty awesome to still hear about the HD 430 in 2013.

 

If you have an amp that can handle these 600 ohm monsters, gear them up, and give us a review

of course, but 480x640 video was also considered good back in the 80's. so much has changed, The most prominent being engineering tolerances. 

 

I'll post some pics later today if I can find both the camera and some time.

As you can see the foam all disintegrated, I will replace all the foam and cloth and will make new leads.

 

 

I am also going to have to build a n amp to drive them (600 ohms). 

I was thinking of a pimeta variant using an lm buffer, but I am still undecided.

Black, I thought about other colors like purple, And I might still do that but black is always a safe bet.

 

EDIT: I just ordered purple as well, we will see which looks better when they get here.

Already ordered. they are very generic shape but the size was the hard bit, they are 102 outside and 65 inside so I ordered 100/50 as the inside diameter is still larger than the driver and at 25mm thick they will be comfy

I must admit I did this to pair of drivers I had lying around and was still impressed with their sound.

I was going to use a little heat shrink to joint the left and right to the main cable but I could use something else and have two separate cables all the way to the plug.
