WHAT DO U GUYS THINK IS THE GREATER GRAPHICS CARD THE GTX 670 OR THE RADEON 7950

thomas88sau

you need to OC a 7950 a lot to get gtx 670 performance, but the prices are different as well, since HD 79xx cards overclock like crazy they are not a bad option, so a better question could be if you have cash for a 670 try finding a good deal on a HD 7970, but for your question 670 is a more powerful card than an HD 7950

Mine doesn't but I've heard that quite a few of them can.

If you overclock a 7950 to the max it can match the performance of the GTX 670, but the GTX 670 is the faster card overall.

Also this comparison doesn't make any sense, since the GTX 670 is in the price range of the HD 7970 while the 660 ti is within the price range of the HD 7950 .

Why do people think 7950 is better just because it can overclock to 670 levels? Keep in mind that both cards can overclock. I'd go with the 670

If you want to ask which one is better, at least compare the cards at similar price points.

670 is better, its more expensive. All the cards from both sides are priced competitively at the correct price points. Just get which ever you feel comfortable paying for.

What to you is "better"?

7950 is more FPS per dollar than the 670.

7950 is in the price range of the 660Ti.

670 costs as much as a 7970.

7970 is equivalent to 680.

Both cards can overclock so you can kinda do the math here. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm an Nvidia fan boy but you can't ignore the facts.

670 is not in the same price range as a 7970 ( maybe a reference one ) you can get a 670 cheap these days 369$ on newegg, sure you can get a 7970 at 10-15$ more but keep in mind that 7970's are in a price range from 385-450 $ and beyond is the ghz, not to mention that so low priced high end cards are a good deal, but usually you can't oc them all on the same level, higher priced cards are cherry picked, and that good deal can go up any time, ofc you should buy the 7970 if you can buy a reference 670, but ppl forget NV editing potential so as an all around card you might be better of with a 670, if you go for gaming and can buy a 7970 you have:

7970's standard maybe ( most of them not ) but the chip is capable, so they usually put cherry picked chips into a 7970 GHZ card

GTX 670. It runs very close to the 680 once you overclock.

The 7950 Boost edition came out in August with higher default clock speeds of course but also with a feature equivalent to the GPU boost from Nvidia. That card has on average *identical* performance as the GTX 670 (the classic HD 7950 doesn't). As Anandtech's tool shows: in some titles the Geforce video card is better, in others the Radeon prevails. So, given that performance (and price as far as I can tell) are the same (Boost editon remember), it all comes down to which brand you prefer and trust more.

7950 definitely. AMD keeps coming out with new drivers to boost performance of the 7000 Series graphic cards and I'm very happy with that, the latest 13.2 beta helped my 7970 a bunch when it came to Crysis 3! The 3GB of VRAM helps a lot as well as I run multi-monitor. The 7950 is a very cool card and overclocks like a beast as well, my friend OCed his to about 1100 Core clock. If you want just out of the box performance, go with the GTX 670 but I will pick the 7950 any day because of the overall better performance. The GTX 670 can be overclocked as well but nowhere near a 7950 because of the locked voltage.
