Hey guys!

For the past few minutes, I have realised that F@h has not been using 100% of my CPU, like it has done before. Heres a photo of my CPU usage on gadgets.

UInoNF8.png

Ignore the first 10% of the graph or so, I had it on Idle for a while.

Basically its just spiking up and down a little, dipping from 65-100% CPU usage. It also seems funny that at 100% usage it hovers around 69-71 Deg C, However during this period of time (spiking) it can go up as high as 75 Deg C.

Also, my GPU is on a higher temperature than before. Usually its doing 71-72 Deg C, But now its doing 76.

My PPD has also dropped by a lot. Previously it was displaying about 200k PPD (Even with pauses inbetween, doing gaming). However today, its only displaying about 50k PPD and is still dropping  (I have it on for 8 hours constant today now). EDIT: Its hovering around 50-70k PPD.

Trying to troubleshoot, My CPU has just taken on a new WU. Is there anyway to delete this WU to take on another WU?

Also, should I be giving my computer some rest? I don't think my computer likes constant load (Never had anything going on constantly for >3-4 Hours before)

Thanks for the feedback!

I would verify that the gadget is correct by using

Real temp Gt for the CPU

and GPU-z for the GPU

Check for process that you have running some thing might

be none responsive also try setting fan curves in Msi after burner

If none of these help physically inspect the card and Cpu cooler

check for damage and try re applying thermal past see if that solves the problem

also if you can try the components on another system to help rule out things that may cause this

-Have verified that the gadgets are correct to a certain extent CPU: +-1Deg, refreshing rate etc GPU: Smack on.

Some of your cpu goes to supporting the gpu, so its norml.

While checking processes, I realised that FahCore17 is gone. It was previously using about 15% of my CPU (Like what @iamdarkyoshi said, supporting the GPU). However, searching around, I find a FahCore15, Literally doing nothing at all. Seriously, not even 0.2%.

Checking in Advanced Control, I see my GPU now using Core15. Probably not as efficient as Core17, as my PPD has dropped from about 60-80k Estimated Points to now about 14k. Anyway to force the chance back to Core17? Restart my computer?

That's called "core 15" and "core 17" WUs.

-Core 17 uses 1 full CPU core, while using the GPU as a co-processor. As a result, CPU utilization goes higher, while GPU drops, thus lowering GPU temps. Also core 17 units receive the QRB bonus; as such, PPD (on a gtx 970) hovers around 200~240k.

-Core 15 is completely different. It does EVERYTHING on the GPU, with almost no need for CPU. So you can expect huge drops in CPU usage, as it's... well, not being used! And huge ups in GPU temps, as it's being constantly utilized on 99~100%. Also, they don't receive the QRB bonus, and PPD hovers around 50~70k for such WUs.

Any user with an Nvidia card get's a mix of both WUs. You were just (un)lucky to be monitoring things when working on core 15, or you're just getting really unlucky with getting a lot of Core 15 lately.

Oh wow, thanks for the information! Is it possible to force my computer to only get core17 WUs? Or delete away the Core15 WUs?

No. The folding software is a jerk: you only do what they tell you to do, and you only stop when they want! You can't chose to receive only one type of WU, nor can you abort current ones to try and get new. And if you try being even more of a "jerk" (it's my hardware, why can't I control it!?) by uninstall + reinstall the software to get new WUs, or removing + readding the GPU slots, they punish you for you failed WUs, and you lose the QRB! Way to go F@H, way to go.....

At any rate, the Core 15 WUs still have to be done, whether we like it or not. If researches didn't need such results, you can bet your wallet that they wouldn't bother releasing them.

Technically, you only lose QRBs when you return less than 80% of your work, is that true?

That means, you can afford to lose 1 in 5 WUs?

You can do 4 WUs in the chrome extention (~5 mins each) and then afford to delete 1 Core15 WU. Is that possible?

Quoting form Bruce:

There are several reasons why you can have your bonus status revoked. The 80% rule is one of them. Bonuses are NOT awarded to people who fail to return the WUs which are assigned to them. The 20% tolerance should be sufficient to cover an occasional WU over which you have no control.

There are no QRB for Chrome WU's and they are calculated on different systems. Completing 10 Chrome WU's won't qualify you for CPU or GPU QRB's and those stats at maintaining 80%...
