So i if i get an i3 with 4 hyper threaded cores, is it still seen as a quad core for games like the witcher? i heard some games wont even launch with dual cores. but will it if it has hyper threading? (i know its a dumb question)

The i3 has two physical cores- hyper threading gives it 4 processing threads. The Witcher 3 required 4 physical cores. You need at least an i5 to run this game.

It still counts as a dual core CPU.

From what I know, yes, games that require a quad core will be tricked into launching anyway. However, if the requirements say they need a quad core, nothing guarantees 100% that it will work well once launched.

That said, I honestly doubt an i3 can't handle the witcher if an athlon II x4 can.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Currently I have an fx 6300 but was hoping to upgrade, guess I'll save up a bit more then

Yes the game will see it the same as a quad core.

Not necessarily. Far Cry 4 will not work with dual core CPUs, including i3s because it detects it as a dual core CPU, despite having 4 threads.

Some games get tricked, some doesn't... Windows reports that it sees 2 physical cores and 2 hyperthreaded ones

I thought they patched that?

They may have - I don't keep up with it, but my original point is still true.

I see, that's disappointing

Pretty sure they fixed that. I've seen i3s play the game fine. Even better than FX 8Xxx

People also hacked the game to make it work.

People also hacked the game to make it work.

I remember watching a video saying that they allowed dual cores to run the game
