I have the option either to buy a Quad core q6600 2.4ghz , 4g ram ddr2 , 320gb hard drive, Gigabyte geforce GT730 2GB GDDR5  all for 200€

Or  Amd dual core 3.1ghz (no more details on micro) 8g ram, 1tb hard drive, Amd Radeon  HD6750 (DVI VGA and hdmi)  230€

I'd go with the Q66...

i'd go with the q6600 setup, then maybe get DDR3 RAM then a new gpu maybe a 750ti or something.

 

or.... you could save up more and get a better configuration.

i would say neither and save up for something better

agreed.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

To be honest, I'd get the AMD one.

 

It's already got 8gb of RAM, a relatively modern motherboard, all you'd need to upgrade is the CPU and GPU, where as the Intel option would need a GPU, motherboard, RAM, and CPU upgrade very soon. Especially if you want to play newer games.

May I ask what socket the motherboard is? A friend of mine had an FM1 board and a little quad core something or other that chugged along in triple A titles very well.

The problem is that he doesn't have the budget to upgrade anything...

He has 300 euros, in a month or two he can save 50 bucks or something, sell the cpu and gpu, upgrade. ^_^

The problem with a old pc like this one is that in order to get an substantial upgrade to the CPU, you need a new motherboard... If I were to recommend a G3258, which is a $70 chip, you need a motherboard that cost more than the CPU itself...

That's one of the advantages of the AMD build, as you could upgrade to a more modern CPU without throwing out the whole motherboard.

Is there any way that you can find out which socket the mobo is on? The model number for the CPU would work as well. You're gonna want to get the right CPU that is compatible.
