Decent clock for 980's ?

Dicehunter

So I managed to get hold of a 980 Matrix platinum, On loan from a friend while he goes on holiday and was wondering what type of clocks would be considered decent or ok without going nuts ?

Most 970's and 980's I've seen have been hitting 1500 on the core and 7400-7800 on the memory no problem, Should I expect the same from the Matrix or slightly higher whilst on air ?

I know silicon lottery comes into play, Just trying to get a rough measure :)

well it depends how good a chip you get, no guarantee it will do better than other cards, but definitely expect at least 1400MHz, most 970/980s can do over 1500

This^^ It really depends on the silicon lottery.

Just try the overclock and post the results (until stable)  :D

I hope it does a baseline of 1500MHz on the core... I know my Strix is a very rare strix... Most 970 Strixes don't come with samsung either. And most can't hit 1550MHz with 8.3GHz effective on the memory... Or 1568MHz on the core with no memory overclock. Best of luck to you on a decent 980. :)

Thanks dude, As long as I can hit 1500 on the core and maybe 7600 on the memory like I've seen MANY reference 980's hit then I'll be happy :)

If not then oh well no biggie but Asus might want to take a page from EVGA's book and invest in binned chips.

Eh, at least you can say you have a top tier card in the 900 series. :D

Why don't you check TTL's 980 Matrix Platinum  OC to get a aproximate core and memmory clock :P
