Been playing CS:GO for less than one year, reached LE/LEM level of play, played LoL for 2 1/2 years on / off & reached top tier platinum, been a mythic raider on WoW. Each time I've reached some kind of prestige in a game I've had to quit because of personal issues. Summer is arriving, and my question to you all is, do you think I should push for world class level in a game? Or is it too late for my old self ? 20 Now. I can deal with the time commitment since I'm graduating soon. I know what it takes mentally and in terms of practice, but do you think it would be worth it? Where are ex-pros now? Am I just egotistical and not that good? :3 This is mainly directed towards CS:GO now.

Depends. Are you ready to sit down and play the same game for 12+ hours a day? Are you ready to travel all over the world and not get to do much else besides play a few games of CS then leave? Are you ready for community hate? Because you will get it, and it will get to you. Pay really isn't all that great.

You should go pro in the anime club. As for CS:GO? I don't know... depends on what type of personality you have, are you someone that starts something and sees it to the end?

Wait a sec what's going on here?....

A lot of people have pointed out how tough its going to be, and it is, if you really want it and are fine with the amount of effort its going to take then go for it, and remember this is not a life long thing most pro's are around for a very short time.

Edit: the hardest part I would say at the start is finding a team, most players say they are looking for a team that wants to train and go pro but are very delusional and brake up in only a few weeks when they lose 3 matches in a row.

If you're keen then start to practice, go to forums where people really take it seriously and get involved with that side of the community. Get yourself to a level you are starting to feel confident with and find a team and see were it goes. Just be honest with yourself every step of the way. If you hit a wall because you're not good enough then move on, if your team is holding you back the be prepared to leave them behind even if you have been with them for 6 months.

Sure go for it  but remember esports is hard to get into almost harder than real sports. Also remember do you have it in you to play a game for 2+ years and someone always telling you you can't stop because you have a contract. Even if you start hating the game you still need to play i know alot ppl personally that started going pro and got into the local scenes but after they got a contract their mind just broke down and they hated what they were doing. i know alot about the scene cause scandinavia was one of the early birds that took the esports scene into their countries and embraced it in the community So i know what im talking about. Also just as an tip i dont know if going pro to csgo is a good idea especially when you are just an eagle my friend is global and says that the level of game up there is so hugely differend compared to eagle that its insane going but if you really want to go comp go and play esea its better for comp practice than ranked less hackers and better players overall

Not trying to be harsh here, but LE/LEM rank just isn't good enough to go pro.

You should be global elite, and even then you have to be good for your rank.

If you reach that, eh, why not.

No.

If you even have to question whether you should then the answer is no.

There are some jobs out there that you do because you absolutely love doing it and can't see your self doing anything else and I'd say "going pro" at something like Counter Strike is one of those jobs.

If you ever talk to people in sports, media or entertainment industries they almost all will say the same thing, that they had to seriously bust their asses for years, saw many, many people fail along the way, but they would do it all over again because they can't imagine doing something else, they love it.

Sure, but don't give up on regular jobs before you know that you're at the top of the playerbase, and by that I mean at least the 1 percent top.

Until you really get into the scene, you should have a steady income, even if it means you can't practice as much. Also, don't believe that you'll get better by simply playing, not even for a second. Always look for your mistakes and thing you could have done better, if you're blaming your team, you're doing it wrong.

I also think communication with other players is pretty important, it will help you getting known and improve your chances at being picked up by an organization or team.

Try streaming too, if you manage to get an audience, it's ideal if you can make a living out of that.

If you haven't properly commited to a game than honestly the chances of you going pro are very very small. Look at your Top CS:Go playes, guys like Get_Right and Olof have been competing since 1.6 and while you were playing LoL, and Playing WoW, they never stopped playing Counter Strike. The same for any other game Pro.

If you already find yourself quiting than I don't think you would have the dedication to Grind for years just to get into a T3 team.

I'm with @Snadzies when it comes to these questions. "Should I become Pro?" "Should I start streaming?" etc. If you feel need to ask opinions from someone else, then answer is no. You don't have confidence or will to commit to it. Both comp esports and streaming require time and patience.

I don't know about CSGO rankings. But I would assume that it follows same lines like all other MP games. Where frags, K/D ratio and skill level are just to hint if you are actually good or not. Like in BF3/4 finishing top 5 of server in the end of the round could mean that you can only camp or can actually play. With CS you will be playing as a team with only one goal. To win enough rounds to win the game. If your style is go for frags, you don't be very good team player. Like you are waiting behind corner and 3 guys run by you. If you start shooting them when first comes to your crosshair, you are doing it wrong.

Anyway, if you want to see what comp gaming is like, find team or place where you can play mix matches for price etc. With pure skill and somewhat working team you could go to local LAN event and finish top3.

There's nothing wrong with asking, most people doing this stuff doesn't start with full commitment and confidence, it's usually just a part-time thing that grows. It's also pretty hard to see what's coming, it's not like a regular job where you have a good idea of what you're going to do.

Not saying that asking as asking would be bad thing. But there's difference with Pro and competive gamer. If someone asks about becoming Pro, answer is always no. Becoming competive gamer for part-time, sure. With streamers its same thing. Since streaming has become so mainstream thing and top ones are earning their living with it. If question is about streaming for living, answer is no. But for fun its sure, why not try talking to 0 viewers.

My comp history consists 4 years of BF2 at EU low-mid and Nordic mid in CQ, 2 years of having fun in CoD4 EU low-mid and 1 year of Nordic mid in BF3. Most of that time as leader position. I quit when load of work became more than fun I did get from it.

yeah thats the problem whit pro level of competive gaming if you do not have from the start up the love to play the game 10+ hours evry day no breaks or anyother game just that one game you are screwed. Playing competive is possible and not hard to achive but going pro is just a dream if you cant commit yourself to the game. Also just an tip to the op if you are jumping games in competive scenario especially when you are jumping genres it means you do not have commitment in you to play the game i personally played quake 3 arena and unreal tournament in semi pro enviroment played in local tourneys and such even if i was only kid at the time. But when i eventually started playing anything else my skill level dropped so drastically that i could not even compete whit med level competive players it's the harsh reality

no offence but i genuinely believe you have a very little  chance, rank has no meaning, anyone can reach LE/LEM, and most globals are SO far away from the skill level of pros/semi-pros, not to mention you live in NA, arguably the worst csgo scene, so finding a good team will be very hard aswell, and even if you do, its not worth it, its just a big waste of time.
