I had a feeling....

Cause capture cards are just 720p/60fps at best, right? My i7 can handle pretty much any game. My only limiting factor is my upload speed (for streaming I mean)

No, some of them can do 1080p 60fps, hell, some high end ones can even do 4K 60fps. (Ofc those are professional ones that cost huge amounts of money, but they are still capture cards.)

 

I'd say try with your i7, if you find issues, then perhaps go for a capture card, or if you have an nvidia gpu, try using shadowplay.

This, I tried it with avermedia capture card and using game capture in obs. Not much performance changes. Like it's pretty negligible. If your computer was ass, you would see a difference for sure. (On phone so I'm struggling to link you the thread with what I tested.)

But ya up load speeds can be a pain.

Also OP, there is a capture card that is pretty baller, Magewell I believe its called. Check it out if you wanna see a capture card that goes over 1080p and good frames.
