you can upgrade to windows 10 later so i would get the cheapest one and that can upgrade to windows 10

Standard Windows 8/8.1 is fine for 99% of users around here.

I am about to buy windows 8 64 bit. What version should i get? (pro,home premium ect.) Is it worth paying the extra or is basic fine?

8.1 Core. Or if you're running more than 128GB of RAM, or need Group Policy, Hyper-V, VHD Booting or Domain Joining, get Pro. Otherwise, 8.1 Core.

I'd go with Pro just so I could use RDP...

It's funny, when I built my rig originally I had to get a Pro version because they had no standard licenses left (Micro Center). Down the line, I now have reason to use the Pro features, like RDP.
