Will I be able to use a Graphics card even if the CPU has onboard graphics?

TroopGFX

Hello,

So im buying my first gaming PC, (Building shall I say) and was wondering. If I have a i5 for example with intergrated graphics, if I added a GTX 960, would the Computer use the onboard graphics or Graphics card?

Sorry if I sound like a noob :/

If you had the video cable coming out of the motherboard, the iGPU. If it's coming out of the graphics card, it'll come out the graphics card.

Don't apologize for being new. Please.

Firstly, don't get a 960. 280X or 290 is much better for the dollar.

And no, it would use the Graphics Card.

Triple A Games

Then a 290 should do you nicely, and give you some future-proffness

get one with an aftermarket cooler though, stock cooler is loud as hell!

Looking good so far, but yeah, if you plug the display cable into the back of the graphics card, the gpu will be used, and vice versa (most motherboards change it automatically, but in certain cases, you might also need to set the gpu as the primary display output in the bios)

Better. The FX-6300 is a horrible CPU. Also you spend too much money on a case for a budget build.

I'd go for a h97 motherboard and add an SSD, but this is indeed much better than the FX one.
