Hey there guys! I was looking around and was wondering what you guys think would be an ideal RAM speed for my build. I've decided on some 1866 DDR3 memory to go along with my i7 4790k, titan X graphics card, and Z97 MSI gaming 7 motherboard. Is 1866 good enough? I do want to be on the bleeding edge I admit. Oh, and I will be using two 8 gig sticks of ram (16 gigs together) for the motherboard because it's a dual channel.

I'm going to punch your face- IN THE FACE.

Yes, its perfectly fine.

There is no noticeable difference between 1333MHz and 1866MHz unless using an APU, which you are not.

Yeah, it's good. And depending on the rams you get, you'll be able to overclock them even further.

Thanks! I was looking up different speeds and found that 1866 only slightly performs better than 1600 and that anything over 1866 actually reduces performance. Pretty strange I have to say.

Over 1866 shouldn't reduce performance, it just wouldn't be worth the very little increase.

Hey! Good to see you again enderman! Thanks for the reply.

hi :)

Thanks! I was looking up different speeds and found that 1866 only slightly performs better than 1600 and that anything over 1866 actually reduces performance. Pretty strange I have to say.

thats because higher frequency ram tends to have much higher latency

performance is a case by case basis

some programs perform better with lower latencies, others perform better with higher frequencies

APUs for example benefit from higher frequency

but for prety much all normal programs you would use daily there is 0 difference between 1600 CL9 and 2800 CL12 or whatever

so basically just buy the cheapest ram, cause you wont get more performance by paying more

Is not strange, ram is pretty fast already for the cpu, and by slightly you mean less than 1-2 FPS, right? xD.

The stars died for you to be here today.

A locked bathroom in the right place can make all the difference in the world.

That's not true, at all.
