So along with me playing tuba in the marching band I am also lead Alto to my jazz band at my highschool. This is my 5th year in a jazz band And I need to replace my old "veto" sax that I got off of craigs list for about $150.

Does anyone here know any brand for good saxes for jazz?

Does anyone on this forum play the saxophone at all?

( I all ready have a new mouth piece)

I don't personally play saxophone (I wish I did), however I have some experience with other instruments (including Brass) and Yamaha most definitely has a quite respectable range all throughout the spectrum. Go to your local store and get a feel for them. :)

Yamaha I guess, I don't play any instruments - but It seems like everything I see has a Yamaha sticker on it.

Yea they are used for rental instruments mostly. So they have some credit. But they don't have much in the jazz department. All of there stuff is okay. But I am looking for something a little more over the top.  I play tuba which help develop my lungs. And I was raised in the mountains and go there alot so I push A metric S*&^ tone of air through the horn that its not taking it.

But thanks anyway.

If saxophones are anything like cymbals (which they aren't, but I think there still might be similarities) you wanna find something old, dry and dusty for jazz. Maybe hit some pawn shops, you might find gold. :)

You made me remember a song, this is why I love the sax, wish I could play:

A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

I play violin and I mean for mass produced stringed instruments, Yamaha isn't a terrible option. Though for brasswind and woodwind you'd be hard pressed to find someone who handcrafts/makes woodwind/brasswind so I guess Yamaha would be fine and that's simply because most of them are made with metal and really doesn't allow for much variation in tone quality/personality because really what determines that is the quality of the metal(s)/material used and the type of metal(s)/material used. For stringed instruments there are many more places the personality/tone quality of our instruments can be affected. String quality playing a big factor in the personality/tone quality an individual instrument may have.

(I.E I have a violin with a beautifully carved horse-head scroll and gorgeous varnish/finish and a tight flamed maple two piece back from the Hebei province in China, it came with strings that would get the job done but it didn't bring out the personality of the instrument very well, fortunately I had a set of  Thomastik Dominant 14" Viola strings (Just needed G, D, and A). Though I by no means am a great or good violinist and would not do very well being a solo. Then again I'm in High School Freshman/String orchestra so eh... Idk.
