Coplete system runs hot without any reason?

Rainerle

Hey all,

First i want to say hi, because im new around here :P

Long story short:

After running my system for a few months with one 560ti i've decided to buy a second one from ebay (an asus),

so after reciving the new one i replaced the thermal compound of both.

But i had some temperature issues, both ran really hot (the gainward modell was around 95° in Battlefield 4 and the asus around 85°C )

so ive changed some things, added more fans and so and the temperatures went better, bit the system is still louder than my MG4 so gaming isnt fun.

I dont know what to do, I despair with this system :(

here are some photos and aida 64 screens:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B0_e7sj1I8dHflhxVDFPOGVfNU5RRFZhbzUxdG91RzNrOFBTWjdTVm5PR0IzRmZSLXIzcU0&usp=sharing

What you cant see on this pictures is the 80mm fan (pushing out) in the top and the 120mm in front of the hdd's (pulling in)

the fans next to the graphikscards are 80mm enermax tb silence (btw. the other fans are tb silence too) and two coolermaster from the old build.

Would be nice if anyone could help me, although my english is bad... (trying to fix that too :P )

cheers Rainerle

Btw: still waiting for an awnser in the nvidia forum:https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/823343/sli/560ti-sli-gamefreezes-graphikbugs-and-crashes/

nobody nice over there i think -.-

English isn't my native language so please be so strict with me if i make some mistakes. :P

Well the first thing is checking to make sure you did the thermal paste up right. You want it as thin as possible while still getting good coverage. That checked and sorted I think your case isn't bringing in enough cool air since you've only got a single 120 on intake.

If you could try testing with the side panel off we could see if your case is turning into a little oven. (I suspect this is what's happening.) Post back here with the results and please make sure to quote my comment so I get notified so I can help you.

1. Overclock until the magic smoke comes out. 2. Modify until broken. 3. Fix and repeat.

Ok, good idea, both cards look good, i'll check the cpu paste later.

Now the interesting part, after removing the side panel everything was cooler than before:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0_e7sj1I8dHWmJwMmp3VkNIc28/view?usp=sharing

no cpu throttling (was still loud but the temps were aceptable)

I think about placing two 140mm fans in the front 5,25" bays for inintake,

but i dont know how, because there is no mounting option  :/

I see that your case is older style. The bad part of those is that they lack modern style for front intake fans. So getting better case could be one option. Also you can add/change bottom fans to bigger ones. They will definetly be more efficient and quiet than 80mms you have now. If you are worried over distance between them and GPUs/CPU, use windtunnels to better direct air flow.

I don't think top fan is doing much, being tiny and almost covered with cables from PSU. If you can, change CPU cooler orientation so it blows towards PSU. That way PSU will be the exhaust for it. Then you could use rear fan as intake for CPU cooler.

That pretty much confirms what I was thinking. Looks like your current setup isn't capable of moving enough air into and out of the case to keep your components cool. You'll really want to consider a more modern case if possible since they can mount more large fans. If not you'll have to get inventive.

Which Stacker case do you have?

i had that same problem with nvidia, it fixed it by it self. For some reason nvidia probabls come for no reason and go for no reason.

Specs: AMD FX 6300 @ 4ghz, Asus R9 270 OC, 8gb Corsair xms3, Cooler Master GX 550w PSU, WD 500 blue, Gigabyte  GA-970A-DS3

Windtunnels sound good, do you have any suggestions wich/where to buy?

Main problem is, ive recently bought the second card, a 2tb hdd and a VmWare Workstation licens so im running out of money, and a good case is around 180+ €....

The top fan isnt covert (perspectivic (?) problem ^^)

Yup, but there's my money problem again ...

I tought about mounting them with some kind of foam by by cutting "fan-sized" holes in it.. (may work but i dont know where i can get something like this)

To be honest: I dont really know, my dad bought it in 2005 (something around that).

Google'd a little bit, it should be a: STC-01

My solution was to disable the card in games like battlefield 4 (wich i thought should supports sli but cause massive lags and driver crashes) and CS:GO where driver crashes, gamefreezes ect. kill you :P So overall im still using one 560ti but have the heat output of two... amazing right?

The case just has pretty bad airflow with the stock configuration. If you're up for some modding, cutting a hole for a bottom intake fan below the graphics cards should fix the issue. Otherwise, adding some front intake fans along with an angled fan towards the graphics cards should help.

What's with the 80mm fans instead of larger ones?

Good, big air flow case (R4/5) aren't that expensive. More around 100€. As for windtunnels, you can go ghetto with them. Use cardboard or another non-conductive material. If you want to buy one, whatever you can find is good enough. They are all made from plastic anyway.

replaced it (like linus did it in his tutorial :P )

This is what it looked like after removing the cooler:

How about removing the mesh on the bottom and mounting 2x 140/120mm fans there and adding 2x 140mm in the front and replacing the 2 120mm cpu fans because they are very loud (could put them in my second system). But i really dont know wich to buy.

I personally think modding is way more efficient if you have a small budget like me. I'll see what I can do, was already creativ before. :P

A single decent 120mm for bottom intake and rear exhaust would be fine if there wasn't thick mesh in the way.

Depending on how much you'd prefer to spend, here are a few options:

NF-S12B: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nfs12bredux1200pwm

If you can fit a 140mm fan, NF-P14s: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nfp14sredux1500pwm
