ssd/hdd

Go to solution Solved by SurvivorNVL,

SSD.  Pure, true, and fast.  Some decently cheap 1tb's are the Patriot Ignite, Mushkin Reactor, Mushkin Striker, Corsair Force LS, and Crucial BX100.

One Big SSD. ;)

But I guess it depends on what you are willing to spend.

CORSAIR RIPPER: AMD 3970X - 3080TI & 2080TI - 64GB Ram - 2.5TB NVME SSD's - 35" G-Sync 120hz 1440P
MFB (Mining/Folding/Boinc): AMD 1600 - 3080 & 1080Ti - 16GB Ram - 240GB SSD
Dell OPTIPLEX:  Intel i5 6500 - 8GB Ram - 256GB SSD

^^^ 1 HUGE SSD, but the price is too damn high. But if your budget allows it then go ahead, if you want to save money then I'd prefer getting smaller SSD + HDD but not SSHD.

what do you think is better, one huge 1tb ssd or a 240gb ssd with an hdd? or a ssd hdd combined into one drive (sshd)? what do you think would be better?

I think the best price to performance option would be a small SSD (120-240GB) for your OS, some programs and maybe even games and a large HDD (1-2TB) for all the rest.

Currently I use a 60GB SSD and 2x 1TB HDDs, which works fine. But a 1TB 850 Evo SSD is already on its way :P

IMO, a 240ssd is almost not enough if you are a heavy gamer as games are becoming larger and larger and an sshd is a gimmick and a "cheap" large ssd like a BX100 may be a better choice. than either a small ssd + hdd or an sshd.

Hey jamesfindlay3,

It really depends on what you are going to do with the storage and how much are you willing to spend.
SSDs provide great speed boost and decrease all loading times. However, if something happens to it, it is nearly impossible to retrieve data from a failed SSD. HDDs have advantage on this as they are easier to retrieve data from.
HDDs are also much cheaper in terms of $/GB.
I would say the most reasonable solution would be to have a SSD large enough to store all your demanding applications, OS and files that you work with and get a large-enough HDD to store everything else that you don't need super fast access to.
Also, having two separate drives gives you sole level of security as if one fails, you would still have everything safe on the other while having all on one drive involves higher risk of data loss.

Captain_WD.

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
