Hello,

With all the hype surrounding The Witcher 3, and having never played a Witcher game,mi decided to get the Witcher 2 enhanced edition on steam.

I must say I am currently a bit bored by the game.

I played for 6 hours and am on chapter one.

I just killed the beast with the tentacles and did some side quests, but I am feeling disappointed by the game.

The interface is too complicated, I die a lot and have to repeat the same sections over and over and I find myself not really engaged by the game...

How are your feelings on the this game?

Is this an indication that probably the Witcher 3 won't be my type of game?

Should I keep it up and the game will open up?

Cheers!

It's not supposed to be an easy game that will hold your hand. Admittedly the interface isn't great but that should be one thing they work on for 3. I would suggest trying to take in as much of the politics and backstory as you can since it plays such an important role in understanding the story of the game and can help you gain an appreciation for what's happening. It is quite a specific style of gameplay and if it isn't for you then it isn't for you, but on the other hand the gameplay has apparently changed significantly in 3. In 2 movement felt clunky and combat felt somewhat sluggish to me but apparently it is much more seamless in 3. 2 is also quite a long game; my first playthrough was 50 hours. I'd say finish chapter 1 and start chapter 2 for the change of scenery and see how you feel then. I've found that some games take a little longer to get into than others but it often pays off in the end.

It's not perfect I'll give you that. But once you get past the kayran (krakensquid thingy) then it starts getting more interesting. Bump it down to easy if you just want the story or stick with your current difficulty setting for that "FUCK YEAH" feeling upon completion. I found both the storylines after flotsam to be really good.

if you end up going with iorveth then make sure you go to the burned down village after dark. And actually go in (you'll know it when you get there). It is pretty funny

The game isn't really for everybody. If you've killed the kayran and find that the game still isn't engaging, I'd just quit.

If your main complaint is that the game is too difficult on lower modes, the difficulty scales terribly with the later levels, getting progressively easier. If you still have problems with the difficulty at that point with the setting set to easy, then you're doing something wrong.

The Witcher 2 has a really odd difficulty curve - it actually starts out pretty difficult and then gets much easier.

Also, just a word of advice - spend your points in the Swordsmanship or Magic tree. The alchemy tree is simply terrible. :S

tl;dr .. witcher 2 << witcher 1, just sayin'. I was mostly disappointed in the witcher2, to 90% because the atmosphere was ruined and some community wishes were ignored. Witcher 1 is the game you should beat to know whats it all about :) I truly recommend this game

edit: and the hype about witcher 3 is simply crazy - I am happy for cdprojekt, but I don't want to see all the shitstorm that will be on the internet after release...

If one does not fail at times, then one has not challenged himself.

Just finished the game today.

The only other hard time I had was beating the dragon at the end of chapter 3.

Since I followed the storyline pretty straight forward, I guess I was poorly equiped, but after some (many) attemps, managed to beat it.

Now I am going to start Mass Effect 1 and wait for the Witcher 3.

Cheers!

I just finished the witcher 2 this weekend. The story is solid, and the game play for the most part is fun. However, there were some elements that really took away from the experience. For example, it made no sense that you need to pay someone to craft an item whose components you went through hell to obtain. I diligently followed the mystic River quest in order to get the vran armour, only to realize that there was no way for me to get 2000 orens to craft it! I really hope this won't be the case in the witcher 3.
