4690K vs E3-1231 V3

So, I have the opportunity to make a decent chunk of change (obviously), and I'm kinda on the fence about what processor I should get, assuming I do get this job.

 

Basically, my uses are gaming (duh), video editing (all CPU based, because Vegas is a retard for GPUs it seems), and streaming. Games include GTA V (hopefully), BF3 (maybe 4 if it goes super cheap), possibly Hardline, Halo Online, and stuff like that. They both fall in the price bracket I'd like (since I have other things to get with them), so yeah. Thanks for the help, because I have no clue which I should get.

The Xeon will serve you best unless you can overclock that i5 to 7 Ghz.  (which'd be awesome!)

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

i think you would benefit a bit more if you go the xeon route since streaming will put a lot of pressure on the cpu and the HT on the xeon will take care of that.

Literally the only reason I asked this is because I didn't know if these games would like 4GHz+ on 4 cores, or 3.5GHz on "8" cores. [emoji14]

the difference is usually negligible, where the difference is truly obvious is in video editing.

Oh yeah. My Pentium does okay for a dual core but it takes forever.

How far are you planning on pushing your OC. The Xeon E3 1231V3 is known for hitting a wall at 3.8 GHz. While the i5 4690K can go to 4.7 with an AIO.

I didn't plan on overclocking the Xeon but for the i5 I would probably shoot for 4.5GHz.

Why? The Xeon only comes in at 3.4 Ghz.
