Ready for SLI

Amit Moryossef

Hey guys!

So I have a computer with the computer hardware that is below, and I wanna know what do I need to do for SLI?

I know i have to change the mother board, but besides that?

Also, for every item you say I need to replace, can you please suggest a good one for the task?

Power Supply:

Seasonic 750W 80+ MOD M12II-750

CPU:

Intel core I5 4690

Mother board:

Gigabyte GA-H97-HD3

Graphics:

Gigabyte GTX 970

And do you think that SLIing with a used card is good?

And finally, this gonna sound dumb, but W/E.

Can I SLI these:

GTX 970 + GTX 980

or only Manufacture1 GTX 970 + Manufacture2 GTX 970

or only Manufacture1 GTX 970 + Manufacture1 GTX 970

Thanks in advance,

Amit

No. You can only SLI two of the same cards. So, 2 970s

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

Can only sli the same cards. Different manufacturers is fine.

You're ready to buy another 970.

pretty sure nvidia only allows you to SLI the same GPU (GTX970 -- GTX970 only) but you can mix & match between manufacturers, the higher clocked GPU will simply downclock to the speed of the lower clocked one, making them "identical".

Can only SLI 2 of the same GPU with the same amount of VRAM. So it has to be 2 GTX 970s, and they both need to be 4GB (in the event that someone released an 8GB model which I don't believe has happened, you wouldn't be able to SLI it with a 4GB version), but they can be from two dif manufacturers like Asus + MSI.

You'll also need to buy an SLI bridge if the new motherboard doesn't come with one.

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W

You can SLI any 970 with any 970, but not with a 980 or any other card.

check your motherboard to make sure it is SLI ready! It can probably xfire BUT make sure it can SLI! The requirements are different!

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

Thanks guys, that was quick!

But the more important question is "does my hardware supports SLI?"

because some have said that I need a 1000W PSU...

You're fine. 1000w would be overkill. 750 is enough for both cards and over clocking.
