are there usual mobos that people go with?

Well. As long as it has a gen 3 PCI-E lane at 16x its gonna work.

im not sure what that is. im still learning these terms and shit lol

Anything with the lastest PCI x16 lane will work but if you want to color match (which I love to do), If you go with the G1 gaming then get a blue one, or you get a classy 980, then get a red one. If you get the EVGA SSC (970 cause the 980 glows) get a sliver mobo. You got options.

look at gigabyte and msi they have good boards that are black and red. I have a gigabyte z97 udh5 and it has worked flawlessly.

Go go for the MSI Gaming 5. If you can get it.

Basically any Z97 chipset motherboard from a decent manufacturer. I personally stick with Asus (M7 Gene) but as long as you plump for a mid range model or upwards you'll get dgood value for money from just a bout anyone. Stick with Msi, Asus or Gigabyte for the most part
