Windows 8.1 100% disc usage

Are there any fixes for this. I've seen a LOT of people have this problem and wondering if its because of my hard drive or my OS? and if there are any fixes for this or just wait till windows 10 which coming soon My computer constantly freezes randomly.

Try turning off HDD indexing and your antivirus / windows defender.

Then check your disk usage.

I shudder at the thought of running an AV scan when the disk is already at 100% usage. Much time many wait.

I've done numerous AV Scans with norton and nothing pops up

Ok so I have re installed windows numerous times because it because so bad that windows 8.1 would crash immediate not letting me do anything.

Get an antivirus that isn't resource intensive I have noticed that the built in windows defender can slow your computer and take a large amount of your disk, I use Avira and when I am running 2 virtual machines and other processes I rarely get abouve 50%

I had this problem and i used winDirStat and found out something had created a temp file which was over 800GB.

 

I deleted it and all was well.

 the windows 8.1 built in security hits the disk really hard the first time it scans and again any time you put a lot of new data on the disk.

was it a temp file or a temp folder; lots of programs keep in progress data in temp folders; I see this issue a lot with older video capture and streaming software because it wont wipe the temp unless asked or until its been so many days.

it was a temp file.

 

What was weird about it, the temp file was the exact same name as the MS Flight Sim Demo i downloaded but much much bigger in size.

have you had to force close the flight sim? this could be the cause of the temp file not being deleted.

Windows defender has been offline ever since i downloaded windows 8.1 also i uninstalled norton which helped a little but im still getting 100% here and there
