Does overclocking make a difference in games

I have overclocks both my cpu and gpu and it hasn't made a noticeable difference to me while gaming,what is your opinion?

Meh, most of the time not that much.

It can help a bit more if your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU and you can make both perform optimally by overclocking your CPU.

Depends how aggressive the Overclock is - generally you only get a few extra frames unless you are absolutely cranking it

Of course it does.  How much depends on your OC.  My 970 is at 980 stock performance after OC.  Stable in every game except WoW.  That's about a 15-20% performance boost for GPU intensive stuff.

In some games, it will make no difference.  In other games, it can make a HUGE difference!

Depends if your GPU is bottlenecked by your CPU. And that depends on how the game was coded. So ultimately it depends on what game you're playing.

 

To check if overclocking will make a difference to the game you're playing. Turn on MSI Afterburner or any software that logs CPU and GPU usage. Play the game for a few minutes and check the logs.

 

If your GPU is NOT at 100% load AND even just one of your CPU cores IS AT 100% usage then overclocking CPU will help. If none of the CPU cores and the GPU is at 100% then the game is just terribly optimized.

It can very well do, especially if you are dipping below 60 fps with vsync on (I have it enabled in games like war thunder, and without my oc in certain areas the fps will tank due to to a spike in usage)
