I haven't got the Rig yet but what would a good overclock for my 4690K be?

Setup is in signature.

Here, have a link anyway <3

4.0+GHz, can't be precise because it's like playing with luck. You "can" achieve high overclock but you "can" get low overclock as well, if you're sooo damn lucky you might be like @KayTees just look at his overclock.

DAMN, 5.2 wow.

I'll try for 4.0 when I get the rig. Is there anyway of identifying if I did good in this "Silicon lottery" you speak of?

Most OC are over 4.0 GHz but you may get a bad chip and not be able to achieve 4.5 GHz.

Make sure you have a cooler. CM Hyper 212 Evo is minimal. Start at 1.250 Vcore/Override and 4.4ghz. 1.150v Cache/Override and 39 Cache Multiplier. 100 BCLK. Run a CPU Stress Test w/ Real Temp along side of it. Stay under 85c. Preferably under 80c.

Pass? Either raise the Core Multiplier from 44 to 45 and run it again. Or if you're satisfied with 4.4ghz, lower the Vcore until you find the lowest stable voltage. One that also produces no errors.

Fail? Either raise the Vcore and run it again or lower the Core Multiplier from 44 to 43 and run it again.

There's a short and sweet starting point to establish your drawing from the Silicon Lottery.

^^^ Yes, and this part "You may get a bad chip" that's what I meant by "luck".

4.5 is probably all I'll actually want. If I can get more it'd be even better though.

I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to CPU overclocking so can you direct me to a good video explaining terms and phrases?

I can post and boot up to 4.8ghz but I'm comfortable with 4.4ghz. My voltage increase needed to go from 4.4 to 4.5 is not worth it in my opinion.

My options are:

4.2ghz @ 1.190v

4.3ghz @ 1.200v

4.4ghz @ 1.220v

4.5ghz @ 1.270v

4.6ghz @ 1.320v

4.7ghz @ 1.360v

4.8ghz @ 1.400v

Right now I'm at 4.4ghz @ 1.220v. 44 Cache Multiplier @ 1.290v. So a solid 1:1 ratio.

So, I'm not asking for some massive overclock that'll make my CPU as fast as Sonic the Hedgehog. Do you think using the ASUS BIOS to overclock it for me would be a good option? I really don't want to go through everything in that video and Linus seemed to be quite satisfied with the Auto OC that the BIOS did.
