Need help on my first PC build

Henryxrl

How many virtual machines do you tend to run?

Do you already have your displays? Is a copy of Windows or any other peripherals needed?

Usually two, an windows and a ubuntu.

Yes I already have 2 1080p ASUS VN247H-P displays. I do have a windows copy and other peripherals like keyboard and mouse and speaker systems etc.

Thanks for your advice. Do you think "EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB FTW+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card" works?

I personally prefer Gigabyte cards, although EVGA are a good brand. This Gigabyte GTX 970 is a bit cheaper and it has a great cooler on it.

Also swap your psu to this XFX XTR 550W. It is better quality than the Corsair CX or EVGA NEX.

Sorry I made some changes before seeing your post. Do you think "EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply" is a good power supply for this config?

The XFX XTR is better as it is a Seasonic built unit based on the excellent G series. It also has a zero fan mode option, so it can run with the fan off until a certain point.

It could be much cheaper: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/B2DMdC

Depending on what you're doing, it might be worth going for an i7 but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'd suggest saving any extra money for more frequent future upgrades and possibly get better peripherals.

One thing I don't understand... why is seagate that much cheaper than WD?

Blacks are WD's performance drives and charge a premium. Blues are WD's 'standard' drives.

Ok. I'll just get the 3TB Seagate one instead. :)

Thanks!! For the case, I'm thinking of getting a black/red case. Which do you prefer? "Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced ATX Full Tower Case" or "Corsair 380T Mini ITX Tower Case"?

If you are going full tower, the Phanteks Enthoo Pro is the way to go for $100... linus did a video on it....really great case.  ITX is just...itx.

Thanks! What do you think of the updated config? Do you think that I still need a better power supply?

No, it looks really good.

@Henryxrl

Since you are not planning on tinkering with your CPU clock speed, the H100 at $90 might be a waste... and it is not really quiet.  The thing with liquid coolers is that there are more parts that could fail.  Pumps do fail.

With a decent tower air cooler all you have is the heatsink, they are a bit more reliable.

The Coolermaster Hyper 212 is good, but loud (fan)... I replaced my fan within a few weeks.  Phanteks, Noctua, Enermax... these companies have good $50 solutions.

If you really like the look of the H100, you might consider a H60 for $50.

Try this just replace gtx titan with gtx titan x and maybe change out the power supply, this might be overkill. http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

You need to post the permalink and not the url.
