What would the best way to transport a desktop without a car? Does anyone make rolling cases or a case for transport?

  • 2 weeks later...

A suitcase maybe? - Though it might get bumped around a bit :S

Is there a suitcase that fits a define r5? lol

Carry it?

How far are we talking?

About 5 miles. I don't have access to a car and have to suffer through NYC crowded bus/subway systems.

depends on the length of your way really

Also dont forget to take out your GPU and if you have a heavy CPU cooler, take that off.

Good advice. Thanks

Sorry that I didn't get back to you guys. I forgot to follow my own topic

I once strapped mine to a bike, desktop, monitor, all for a half mile journey  to my friends for a LAN party. Almost dropped it twice. (This was before my nice H-440) some $30 Antec case

I'd be fearful about riding with my desktop and monitor strapped to my bike. It's bad enough I can't keep myself balanced on one

This was about a year back when it only cost $500. Now I would never do that. I get worried about it when it's in the back of the car and there are sharp turns (any turns at all in fact). the only parts that have been carried over are : 4 gigs of ram and an hdd that I don't use anymore.

I see. Seems like desktop transport is a daunting task. May be time to invest in a semi beefy laptop for editing and gaming on the go.

In the NYC metro area, Uber is the same price as a private cab, it sucks. Cabs in NY are damned expensive. And from my experience with Uber. some drivers are unwilling to do pick ups at the outer end of the metro area (where I live).

Bugger.

Take your GPU and heavy cooler out and just carry it.

This is why mITX builds are awesome. Wouldn't be an issue with a cubitek mini :P

I remember watching a video of a server that someone had hooked up to batteries and a cell phone with 3g so it wouldn't lose connection. They transported it via a rolling chair or a cart or something on the subway. You should be able to do something like that maybe? I mean, without the batteries and such, just get a cart or something that rolls.

A folding luggage cart may do the trick. What about cushioning the areas that rest on the cart?
