New Gaming build, 3k budget.

Quadrono

I'm replacing my i5/gtx770 rig (giving it to my sons).  I have a semi-hard budget of $3000 for a new PC and monitor.

My main uncertainty is about the ROG Swift monitor.  I know its the new hotness as far as 1440p goes, but dang...you pay for it.  I have a couple friends using PB278Qs that love them, but I'm concerned that monitor might be getting a little long in the tooth for a modern build.  I'm looking for performance and longevity both.  If I did switch out for the PB278Q that would give me a few hundred bucks to bump up the RAM or SSD capacity or something else (titan x??)

Any thoughts on the monitor dilemma or anything else are greatly appreciated.

Again this PC is for gaming, Primarily I am playing ARMA 3, GTA 5/Online and......well that's about it for stuff that is out now.

Thanks a ton!!

Here is what I spec'd out.

CPU:  I7 5820k

Cooler:  H100i

Case: CM HAF X

RAM:  16gb PC2400 G.Skill

Mobo:  MSI X99S Gaming 7

GPU;  EVGA ACX 2.0 GTX 980 Superclocked.

HDD1  Samsung 850 Pro 256gb SSD

HDD2:  WB Caviar Black 2TB 7200RPM

PSU: Corsair Professional 850W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Optical:  Asus BD/DVD reader burner

OS Win8.1 Pro

Monitor: Asus ROG SWIFT

All that comes to $2942

dont spend so much on a pc pls, the 5820k is basically useless, cuz it cant run more gpus than an i7  4790k, so get that one, but i would just get two gtx 970s

Would take the MSI X99S SLI Plus since its quite a bit cheaper and looks better IMO, also would go with a completly modular PSU if you are in that price range

CPU: Xeon 1230v3 - GPU: GTX 770  - SSD: 120GB 840 Evo - HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RAM: Ballistix 8GB - Case: CM N400 - PSU: CX 600M - Cooling: Cooler Master 212 Evo

Update Plans: Mini ITX this bitch

Ditch the 5820k and get 980's in sli or 970's in sli.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

You didn't say that you do any work like cad, webdesign (or other stuff which I know nothing about).

So I don't see any reason why you would go with a 5820k instead of an i7 4790k (or an i5 4690k almost only gaming) and then spend the rest on a 980 sli.

Then maybe save up/buy (for) a 4k monitor or just chill with a 1440p and really high fps.

Though i would say 3000$ on a gaming PC is a VERY silly amount of money to spend (i would only spend that much on a big workstation computer for 3D and Animation work along with video editing and such, or pretty much Photoshop Illustrator and Sony Vegas along with 3dsmax and maya)

i wouldnt go with that build.

(Nevermind the build above me is kind of better)

if i had to though i wouldnt go for a 4790K unless i was doing streaming.

Hey bro whatcha DOOOOOOOOIN *Barfs fruit salads on your chest*

i7 4820K / Sapphire Radeon HD 7970GHZ 6GB \ 16GB Corsair Vengeance (4X4) / Gigabyte X79-UD3 \ EVGA Supernova G2 850W / Windows 7 Ultimate / Dell U2412M \

Dat be spooky....my hella rad pootpoot *u*

Is your goal simply 1440p gaming? You could do that for much cheaper. Id also strongly suggest the Acer XB270HU IPS 1440p over the ROG Swift. Blows it away as far as I'm concerned (I've used both)

That Acer Monitor looks very interesting.

You can get the EVGA Supernova G2 750W for $84.99 after rebate.

What do you guys think about the BenQ XL2730Z 1440p monitor?

The BenQ has a 1ms response time too and is only $599, I know next to nothing about them as a brand though.  I have had Samsung monitors exclusively in the past.  I do like shooters but more on the tactical side than the arcade side.  Arma 3 is and will be my go to shooter till there is an Arma 4.  I love open world sandboxy type games, GTA 5, the Elder Scrolls series, Farcry 4,  Arma.

I am currently using a Samsung 24 inch, 1920x1200 native monitor I bought in 2007, I feel like a 980 GTX probably and a Titan X for sure would be wasted power on that barely better than 1080 display.  4k is awesome, but everything in Windows is so small and the Windows scaling sucks so bad I just can justify getting a 4k monitor.  I'm 47 this year, my eyes aren't in their twenties any more.  1440p seems to be "better enough" over 1080p to justify the power of a current gen card.  Those are my thoughts anyway.

If for gaming online GTA v, battlefield, cod, cs:go and other shooters response time is key aka pick ROG swift

The Acer Monitor in the spec above looks better. It is 144Hz with a 4ms response time and is also an IPS panel, so better viewing angles and colours.
