Windows 8.1 mail app won't sync

Someone I know is having a problem using the mail app in Windows 8.1 and I was wondering if anyone else has come across this and found a solution.

Originally it was fine when I set it up but after a while it just stopped syncing. It stays like that for a while (usually a week or so) then just goes back to working normally.

When I go into the settings it says there's a problem with a server's security certificate but if I tick the box that says "Ignore certificate errors" it doesn't do anything.

I know this is not really a solution, but I would not use the Win8.1 mail thing.

Install Thunderbird on that persons computer and they will be fine. They can synchronize their hotmail account with that also so there is not really a downside to that I would say. I have never had trouble with Thunderbird.

I believe the Mail app has been already been discontinued in Windows 10 (or at the very least, I don't see it after a fresh install of the latest build).

So might as well change to something good right away, like Thunderbird, for a bit more of "future proofing".

use the webapp, much better, desktop mail programs are the worst! i use gmail and i only have an app on my phone but on my two computers i have links to my icloud.com/#mail
