H105 + i7 4790k overclock

Go to solution Solved by elliott35,

Dont use Prime. It calls for more voltage than you set. Aida and realbench are better options, they test all instruction sets. And no, you should be getting better than that. Here is a link to a good google doc with other peoples overclocks https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvOpIsGT1cQAdEFvV2lQWVd1OWo2a2ZlTkxjdWVtUmc&output=html&gid=0

Dont reseat the CPU. How much thermal paste did you use? whats the voltage?

Hi, I was just wondering if it was average to only get only 4.4ghz overclock out of a 4790k with an h105?! If I bump upto 4.5ghz and run p95 I get temps over 100. :-/

Msi gaming 5 mb

Is it a reasonable thought to try and reseat/resit the cpu?!

Cheers!

I did read that before about prime95, I'd completely ignored it, downloaded and installed Aida and is working perfectly fine now at:

  • 4.7GHz;
  • 1.25 volts;
  • Max temps of 76*c.

The amount of thermal paste was just ever so slightly bigger than a pea size, using the line method.

Sounds like you have a slightly better than average chip. Congratulations.
