I can't remember who makes them, but I recall seeing in either the CES or another tech show coverage a PC case fan / cooler fan manufacturer was making their motors with 6 coils instead of the normal 4 for better efficiency. It was represented by a graphic on the fan itself. I looked back though the LinusTechTips and NeweggTV videos from this year, but couldn't find it. Does anyone know who was doing this with their fan motors or am I losing my mind?

Noctua... And I'd assume other manufacturers. The iPPC at least has them currently available.

Depends... under ~1200 they aren't that bad.

yeah at 50% speed they arent loud, but youre also getting 50% performance

in which case you might as well buy fans that run at 1200rpm and have better performance...

Indeed.

But, at least in my system, they are directly controlled my CPU temp. So they only are ramped when everything else is too.

Well, they're called industrial for a reason. If you're only using them as average Joe PC fans, might as well save your money and get something like Be Quiet's Silent Wings 2s, which perform better and are cheaper then industrial Noctuas

true, but some people dont want loud fans even at 100% load :)

My rig is in the same room as my server rack, and is used for work more than anything. They fit for what I used them for.

I'd rather cool temps over some noise... and I got low temps and quite acceptable noise. It's all how you deal with your setup, can make a world of difference.

I can still hear my kids upstairs just fine. It's just a micro-cluster.

No. I remember there being a sticker on the front of the new fans showing 6 radial lines. It's gotta be another brand, but I still can't find the video for it.

Probably BeQuiet!

SW2'S may be a bit quieter but they definitely don't perform better than NF-A14's.
