Pre-order GTA V?

IMPERIUS

Hi!

I was thinking about pre-ordering gta V for PC.

My question was what would I get from it? I know about the cash you get in-game but any other special weapons/ cars/ clothes etc.?

Thanks

No need to pre order.

If you like the online enough, you will get the money yourself. And you don't get any other stuff for it.

It's also a download, not a physical disc, so they won't run out

to be fair I can recall a few times games online had to stop being sold cause they ran out of keys.

But no dont preorder. at least wait until reputible reviewers are getting their stuff out...TBs port report for example.

I know, but 99% of the time that doesn't happen.

As Zappian said, the last good GTA PC port was Vice City (over 10 years ago).

San Andreas was a bad port and GTA 4 too.

This put me at ease:

"We made a commitment to having the core GTA team work alongside our specialist PC leads on every version of the game," Phil Hooker, Director of Technology at Rockstar North told us, speaking on the delayed release. "Since the PS4 and Xbox One share similar architecture to the PC, we were using the same team for both new console and PC versions. So while PC development was happening more or less alongside the console versions from the very beginning, carefully managing each version in this way took a lot more time than if we had a completely separate team working on the game."

I can't see the benefits of pre-ordering this game.
Don't get me wrong, but to only get 1.350.000 ingame currency is ridiculous imho.
It takes away the real fun when using the online features, i'd rather earn it myself.

Also a pre-order means getting a vanilla game with flaws, at least mostly of the time.
Can't remember seeing one vanilla game that runs competely flawless.

As San Andreas goes, i even didn't have any issues with it.
Was smooth when i played back in those days.

You have a lot of trust in a company who has a history of horrible pc ports.

Nope, I don't.

I din't deny that there past games where a port, all I'm saying is this game isn't a port.

Proof? Leaked build logs show it's been in development since 2012 (at least)

Also an interview with pc gamer states that the game was made parralel with console development AND the pc version was also used to help build the next gen versions thanks to there architecture.

http://www.pcgamer.com/rockstar-talk-4k-pc-performance-and-more/

just under the picture of him riding the motorbike.

"PC Gamer: How did the process of bringing GTA 5 to PC compare to previous Rockstar games on PC, like GTA 4, LA Noire and Max Payne 3? Was there anything different this time around?

Kevin Hoare—president of Rockstar Toronto: The process of bringing GTA 5 to PC was most similar to our last PC title, Max Payne 3. Our process of bringing titles to PC has evolved over the years. We knew that we would eventually create a PC version so early development was done in parallel with the console versions. In fact, some of the early preparations we made for PC, like 64 bit & DX11 support, paid off very handsomely when the PS4 and Xbox One architectures were announced. That early work made the process of transitioning to the new consoles a lot easier and allowed us to hit the ground running. The artists also prepared for PC by authoring their source art at PC-ready resolutions, even though we had to use massively reduced versions for the PS3 and XB360.

It is still amazing to think how we took a last-gen game that, at the time, was something we were extremely happy with in terms of looks and performance, saw new console versions of that world and were blown away at all the added detail we could show, and now we get to see that same game scale to 4kat 60fps, which is just beyond anything we have experienced as developers. We have aimed to retain that ability to scale the performance for the PC game so players with different hardware platforms can benefit from that as well."

what he is saying this isnt a port because a port by definition is taking a game made for one platform and altering its code to make it function on another...an example would be if mgs4 was mode for PC today it would likely be a port because it was never ment to be on anything other then ps3. its a cheap and lazy way to get a game on another platform

the same game being on multiple platforms doesn't have to be a port though it could be (like in this case if what @leelaa14 says are true/what rockstar is implying is true, but should be noted they havent explicitly said its not a port) built from the ground up from scratch to function on the platform it appears on, this helps you easily avoid the pitfalls of the platform and/or take advantage of its strengths, something not easily done when you are just altering xbox 360 or xbone code to work on pc or ps3

Thank you for clearing it up.

But to link to an old thread...

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/57961-more-gta-5-leaked-code-shows-pc-version-is-the-base-version-and-is-finished/

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/56583-gta-5s-x360-data-reveals-code-for-pc-and-ps4-version/#entry764499

Taking in to account the info in both of these threads about what was leaked and what R* have said...it seems pretty clear that the pc is the leading version.

I will also say it seems like we may have been fucked over in terms of getting are game on time, I won't just blindly defend R* in this case.

But I am pretty confident that the pc is the base version and the info points to that to.

im very skeptical of the claims that the pc one is the base "original" game since its the last one out the door. and considering how much info like this can be misinterpreted by those not in the industry but think they know of all of its inner workings. im not saying your right or wrong, im just skeptical, esp when so many pc gamers are unfortunately out to prove their e-peen is bigger then their console playing peers and will latch on to anything at times.

I'm far from an elitist myself and frankly have nothing against consoles.

All I'm doing is taking the info in front of me which is those threads, leaked build logs and the info R* gave pc gamer in an interview.

It makes me feel pretty confident and I applaud you for remaining "skeptical" rather than just blindly going against the info purely because of there track record.

I am feeling pretty confident about it though, but time will tell.

im not saying you are, im just saying we have no idea if those who made those claims are. I am too optimistic, Max Payne worked very well on PC and it was on the RAGE engine :) (granted GTA is a different beast then MP) but there are positive signs for sure.
