Silverstone 140mm fan filter

xnoobftw
Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Problem is my lower fan has hard drive cages on the other side D:

Guess fan grills are my only solution now....

How exactly?

Just use some rigid plastic such as strips like zip ties to make some bars and attach them to the filter so they don't let the center of that mesh from hitting the fan blades, if you want the easiest solution either some fan grill or new rigid filters will be the quickest solution.

Hey guys! Im experiencing a problem where by the filter like so

ff143-34.jpg

Is sorta "sagging" and hitting against my fan creating this annoying sound

Any of you creative people know any solution?

The only one i can think of is installing a fan grill but that will kinda ruin the aesthetics of my front LED fan....

And it might affect airflow too~

Just get rid of it...Maybe more dust but...

Or buy a new one

Silver stone has theses with a frame to prevent the filter mesh from fall into due to the air pressure, you can always add a pieces of clear plastic to try it give it some stiffness. Placing it on the output side of the fan instead of intake will also work but less than ideal.

Well putting something on the mesh will obstruct airflow, so unless you can somehow stretch the mesh then super glue it in place, you may have no alternative

the filter is supposed to go on the OUTSIDE of your case...

not between the case and the fan

thats why its magnetic

you stick it to the outside and it can be easily removed and cleaned

the case fan grill will prevent it from touching the fan

Well i do have long screws....

Spec 03!

Hmmm how about installing fan grills? Would that work? And would  my airflow be obstructed by alot??

Wire fan grills will work no problem, and not really affect air flow since it's so open, but you can make your current fan filters work by making the mesh more rigid using some thin strips of plastic if you want to save money and DIY it giving the fan some back pressure to prevent it from sagging.

fan grills would work

but if you have long screws try attaching the filter to the other side of the fan (with the plastic bars) and that should stop it just like a fan grill

Just use some rigid plastic such as strips like zip ties to make some bars and attach them to the filter so they don't let the center of that mesh from hitting the fan blades, if you want the easiest solution either some fan grill or new rigid filters will be the quickest solution.

Hey i've managed to be able to exchange for a brand new silverstone 140mm filter (but they do not have a rigid one) so are there any prevention methods i should be mindful of to prevent sagging other than a fan grill?

You can either use washers to raise the filter, or find some thin (but rigid) wire that you can bend to make your own crossbar, to support the filter.

My uncle can give me like 2 120mm grills for free! And it kinda makes my PC live up to the name THE BBQ anyways xD

Thanks for your advice anyways :)
