So I have been playing around with Asus AISuite3 on my new 5820K and have become a bit alarmed by the idle temps being displayed in RealTemp, so of course I went to open HWMonitor and saw the reading was different, and yet again when I opened Corsair Link I found a completely different reading... So the question is, which software should I believe? The screenshot below was taken with all fans on max and just google chrome open.

I vote HWMonitor. 

 

I had an H80i and an H100i and I had all kinds of false readouts using that silly Corsair Link software. 

 

Thanks guys, is there any way you know to link the h100i's custom fan curves to external temp readings?

 

I have also just noticed that RealTemp is only showing 4 of the 6 cores.. weird

THEY ARE ALL CORRECT

 

corsair link shows you the motherboard CPU temp reading

 

what you are currently looking at in HWMonitor (38C) is the motherboard CPU temp, not the CPU core temp

that temperature is the temp sensor located right below the CPU

if you scroll down you will find the individual core temps called core#0, core#1, etc...

those are the temps directly inside the CPU

 

realtemp is telling you the core temps

when measuring CPU temps, always use the core temp

so the average of those 4 temps is the actual CPU temp

no idea why it only shows 4 of the 6 though

 

some programs will actually do this, so it shows up as 1 temp but is actually the average of all 4

but fron those 3 programs you posted, realtemp and HWmonitor core# are the ones you want to look at

it might just be a program limitation

I've had very bad luck with every program you listed and the X99 platform (HWMonitor wouldn't even work at release, just crashed).

 

The only programs I have been able to consistently use to supply accurate temps on X99 have been Intel XTU and AIDA64.

 

*EDIT*

If you're going to be using AIDA64 you'll need to add your additional 2 cores to the preferences for temp readouts, as 4 cores is the standard default. Just hit the Pref button and toggle them in the drop-down menus->
