There was a blue screen that came on and said system halted. after I turned it off my pc keeps turning on and off. Is it dead?

Try booting in safe mode, if that doesnt help repair windows using your disk, if that doesnt help copy all the data to another disk and reinstall

most likely not.

What did you do in order to get the BSOD?

Try turning off the psu for a few mins (after you shut down your pc).

Well turning on and off, but at what stage does it turn off?

If you see something on the screen, it isn't dead and there is hope for it.

But if the monitor displays absolutely nothing, well it might be gone 4 ever...

nothing shows up on my monitor and I just hear it turning on and off

only way to physically kill a pc is to take it apart and smash it up with a hammer. nothing is terminal and everything is fixable. just depends how deep you want to dive into you pockets ;)

In your sense, a computer is either already dead, as it is not physically living, or it never dies, as all parts will be somewhat intact (unless you threw it ina blackhole, or burned it crushed it to the point of no return, which a hammer could not do).

I want to say something happened to the motherboard.

thats what I think, since I really can't do anything with it.

lol no in my sense a dead pc is where all components are broken so nothing from the original machine or more than 50% can be replaced. a dead cpu does not make a dead pc, nor does a dead gpu. it just needs a new part or 2!! were not considered dead if we have a kidney or liver transplant!!

you could be considered dead during a heart transplant though!

not necessarily. can you get into the bios? if so does it detect the cpu/ram/gpu/hard drive??

do you have a dedicated GPU?? if so try running onboard if you have it.

have you tried unplugging all non essentials in and just running it as barebones as it can be?

Do you hear any beeps? .. do you have a speaker to report said beeps attached to mobo?

try clearing the cmos, could be a pre bios issue. nothing shows on screen till the bios has posted. if it doesnt even get that far it could be a bios issue or a dead cpu.

fault power supply could also cause said crash and reboot loop if its not giving sufficent power/holding enough charge in the capacitors.

you can't just call a broken component without doing tests!

if you're planning to build a new pc soon (as you're sig says) if there is anything dead in your old pc theres no point replacing anything, just wait till you can get your new build together.

well I'm not really sure what I should do since every four seconds it shuts off then turns back on again, repeat.

first step unplug all non essential things plugged into the pc, remove all non OS hard drives.

then remove the cmos battery and wait a few minutes and then replace it. then try powering it on. has it worked... yes? no?

if yes well I'm going to bed!! if no..

if no.. it does point heavily to either a PSU or mobo fault. the psu can only be tested if you have a spare to replace it with if you dont.. well you can't .
