TWO R9 295x2 vs. TWO 980x Classified

I've been looking into GPU and have posted some questions here before.  Now I am wondering, what would be better:  buying TWO R9 295x2 whch would cost about $1,500 or buying TWO 980x Classified, which would cost around $1,400?  What setup would get me the best FPS and overall performance?  I'm looking to use a 34 inch Samsung curved monitor with 3440 x 1440 with max or near-max setting.

A 980 is 500 dollars give or take. So two of them are like 1000. Idk where you are getting your numbers. I have no idea what a 980x is, but I would recommend two 980s. Less heat, power consumption. I dont even know if you can do 2 295x2's in crossfire.

you can do 4 way CF with 2 295x2's, but CF optimization is poor so...

Never heard of the 980x classified. Do you have a link?

 

I would go with the 980s. The 295x2 will effectively be 4 graphics cards, and doesn't scale as well, and it will eat power and heat.

I'm not too sure about this one, but even ONE 295X2 is plenty of horses to drive 1440p Ultrawide. Even one 295x2 keeps up with 970 SLI, so it's pretty obvious that 2 of those buggers will beat 980 SLI. http://tpucdn.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_970_SLI/images/perfrel_3840.gif

True, I didn't think about that. I can't imagine how bad 4 cards would be, and we didn't even say anything about power consumption. You'd need Chernobyl to power those flaming monsters.

Even with poor optimization 295X4 will still at least keep up with 980 SLI in games that support multi-GPU at all.

your comparing a dual gpu vs a single gpu. so in all fairness youd have to compare 4 gtx 980's to the two 295x2 IMO.

That is normally true, but in this scenario the options are literally between quad-gpu and dual-gpu... So it is fully applicable.

For gaming 980 SLI > Titan X, unless you're running 5K or higher and plan to add a second Titan X later on when and if DX12 doesn't support combining VRAM in SLI/CF

No... It shouldn't be. Because in this scenario he is asking about dual 980 vs dual 295x2... The literal example right now is dual card vs quad card between his options. So comparing quad vs quad is useless for this.

I was referring to how he said it should be quad vs quad, and at that point quad 980 will obviously beat 295X4/quad 290X

Honestly if you're sticking that many GPUs together for that budget, get three 8GB R9 290Xs and have your own Autobahn Hammer.

the titan thing was more of a personal opinon because i always prefer a single vs dual card setup. not to mention that gorgeous 12gb of vram.....all the skyrim mods.

imho it depends on the rig, if you need a better cpu then get a 295x2 because it is cheaper. if you are mitx then get a 295x2. i would even say that 2 970 is a good option too

The 295x2 will be more powerful at the cost of heat and loads of power. You need close to 1000 watts just for one to be safe.

u need a 1500watt just to be safe honestly, 295x2 are rated at 500watt by itself lol.

I know he was talking about two and 1500 watts is pretty good but the cards do pull a little more then 500 watts.
