Should I Get a MSI R9 280 or ASUS STRIX GTX 960?

Go to solution Solved by Virtual01,

280 mah dude

I want to build my first PC and have ran into my final decision. What graphics card should I get? I was set on the GTX 960 from Asus but I have heard that card is pathetic for the price point. I am now looking into an R9 280 but still, I am kinda lost. I am looking to game on 1080p on games like Shadow of Mordor and Far Cry. If possible I would like to hit 50 ish FPS at high settings. Any comments are greatly appreciated! You guys rock!

im not claiming to be any expert on the topic but looking here http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=2436&gid2=1861&compare=geforce-gtx-960-2gb-vs-radeon-r9-280

i see that the gtx 960 has direct x12 support while the 280 doesn't for that alone I would get the 960.

Im also looking to get a 960 but im waiting for the 4GB models from asus and i need to save a little more

Directx12 is down to OS not card.

Please don't ever use game debate as it's literally a site mad by techies rumors.

Also why only ASUS and the 960 can barely use 4GB efficiently because of it's small memory bit bus so that's a really bad buy.

280x all the way.

Even I, a true 960 fanboy, must say that with those games the 280 will be better. However, the 960 will perform better at mostly everything else, got to give it some dignity :)

CPU: G3258 @ 4GHz GPU: Gigabyte GTX 960 OC RAM: 8GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 SSD: Corsair LS 120GB Case: Antec GX500 Mouse: Logitech G402 Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Headphones: Shure SRH440 Microphone: That Zalman Zm-Mic1 that everyone recommends but noone uses

Remember when the R9 280 was the HD 7950? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
