I am going to be upgrading from my FX 6300, I am going to be buying a new MSI Z97 PC Mate Motherboard that will hopefully be good for a small overclock with my hyper 212, 8 more gigs of Corsair Vengence since it is so cheap right now ( Also, I like my tabs on chrome ;)), I also want to stream at 1080p 60 (or 30 if my internet cand handle it as well as i thought) to twitch, pc games, that im playing on the same PC, I was wondering If I should get a i7 4790k or a i5 4690k. I currently have a XFX 280x, if that is relevant. I want to stream games like CS:GO but also things like Battlefield Hardline, Elite Dangerous, H1Z1, and maybe GTA V when it comes out. I play other games too, like Skyrim (A ton of mods), and I have been replaying lots of older games like Witcher and battlefield and tomb raider, but probably wont stream them, and I'm sure either of These CPUs could handle those. Anyways, thanks for help!

I would get a 4790k if I were you since those extra threads and faster out of the box clock will help you out.

The best i5 you can afford. You don't need an i7

If he is streaming, the extra threads will help

I would suggest an i7, it will help with streaming well and will game just as good as an i5

4790k will do on average 20% better in BF4 and a few others (cant rember which one!)

The i7 will significantly do better in streaming BUT if you don't want an OC the Xeon E3 1231 is basically a locked i7. Also maybe you want to upgrade your graphics, you can put more money into graphics and get the Xeon for the performance of an i7.

Here's the reality. The i5-4690k will do everything you need it to, and do it well. Especially gaming. The i7-4790k is like a 4690k with Hyperthreading and a higher base clock... along with more cache. They both are awesome CPU's in their respective price brackets.

I own the 4690k, and it has never reared it's head as being a problem in anything I do. The choice is yours. If the 4790k in in your range, go for it. If you want to save some cash and see similar performance for gaming, go for the 4690k.

Just keep in mind the extra threads from the 4790k will do you justice for streaming and multi-tasking.

Hardly. Unless he's using some super old codec, there will be minimal difference.

Unless you want to quote and quote "futureproof" OP, OR you live close to a Microcenter, save money and go i5.

i7 wont future proof anything, but will definitely help during streaming and multi-tasking.

4790k will do on average 20% better in BF4 and a few others (cant rember which one!)

Most games rely more on GPU so a faster cpu usually makes minimal difference

I stream at a 3000 bitrate 1080p in OBS with a 4670k. So an i5 WILL work. However, I can definitely see the i7 being of use if you want to stream, play music, play ArmA II, and have 50000 chrome tabs open. My i5 can get pushed to it's limits when I do things like that. Bear in mind I'm overclocked to 4.0 ghz and water cooled too.
