So,

I am quite concerned because my I/O shield shocks me every time I touch it and it is not a small shock you get from touching a door knob after walking on the carpet, it is quite painful. I know how damaging it can be to the hardware, so I quickly turned the computer off, which seemed to be running fine when I turned it off. However, I am not sure what to do from here. The computer has relatively new hardware, 2 years old, and it is of course connected by a 3 prong connector so the PSU should be grounded, if I am not mistaken about how that works. What could be causing it? Could a loose cable be causing it?

Thanks for any advice :)

its made of metal so its going to ground you out and im pretty sure you havnt damaged anything if you did youd know because something would be broken im not an expert in thsi field or any when it comes to computers but i doubt its a huge problem.

That's not good... not good at all. like, really bad. Did you just touch it once and happened that one time or did you touch it a few times and zapped it every time? Did you tru grounding yourself before touching it?

btw this is unrelated, but I thought you meant somthing else by "I/O shield shocking me"

You are not mistaken. What kind of case do you have? a metal case should be entirely grounded by the power supply.

System CPU : Ryzen 9 5950 doing whatever PBO lets it. Motherboard : Asus B550 Wifi II RAM 80GB 3600 CL 18 2x 32GB 2x 8GB GPUs Vega 56 & Tesla M40 Corsair 4000D Storage: many and varied small (512GB-1TB) SSD + 5TB WD Green PSU 1000W EVGA GOLD

You can trust me, I'm from the Internet.

Actually, zapping a component doesn't always break it, it can also be damaged and get worse or start to be noticeable in the long run.

It happens once and then it builds up and happens a couple hours later if i touch it again, i tried grounding myself before i touched it yes

the case is a mix of plastic and mesh made of something metal-like

Does the case ever shock you?
