ASUS Xonar Essence STU Where to buy?

no luck there, I read $400 on head-fi

 

If it could drive stereo speakers as well, I would snatch me up one so fast....

But I don't have powered speakers, so it wont work if it doesn't have a small power amp also built in.

Depending on the Wattage of the speakers and how much power is needed.

 

you could use a DAC to an External AMP for the speakers.

 

that way you can have the nice audio quality from the DAC and the power for your speakers. there are all-in-one solutions also

I tried driving them with my Little Dot MK IV SE - too much distortion at moderate listening levels.

It's not the max wattage that matters, but rather the dB/W, which is 92. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/29305-speaker-recommendation-wide-budget-range/#entry376251

That's what I ment, they are nice speakers. I might grab a set of big speakers for Thos bangin parties in the apartment :)

Yes but im using the rca/.25"

I REALLY don't want to spend $800 just to use XLR on my $400 speakers

800? which one are you looking at heres the basic one that can be upgraded to everyone above it very simply http://amzn.to/18clwbK yje only one that is special at all is the MUSES because it have a switch for lower impedance headphones or IEM's. Also all the STU is is a ST/STX in USB form factor. the Essence One blows them away.
