I currently have AudioTechnica ATH-M50x's as my daily headphones. I'm looking for the next best thing after them.  I bought a pair of Vmoda LP2's and was really disappointed in them. I think they sound like crap no high end at all and way to much mid range.

I like the way the M50's mid range and the upper end sound but the low end bass needs a little more rumble and the highs could use a little more sparkle.

What would be the next best thing.   I saw the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro's and AKG K553 Pro Studio's on Massdrop

I heard that the custom one pros have more bass but the sound is less balanced, I don't believe it produces audiophile grade sound.

I like the looks of those. Would I need an amp to use them with my PC since they are 300ohm.

mo' bass, mo' treble? Have a go at DT770's. The COP will likely disappoint like the LP2 did.

Look at the hd650/hd600

Probably a bad recommendation based on the OP.

You might, but that link from B&H includes a free fiio e6 amp. :)

I'd be betting on the K553 (from massdrop) being better than the M50x in the bass department.  The only thing that bothers me about the 553 is that they didn't bother to make it a replaceable cord!  Second pick would be the DT770s, although I've never heard them.
