Does anyone know how to set up Dolby Digital 7.1 on a Sound Blaster Z, I have Astro A40's and wanna set up 7.1 surround on them, I know it's poss8ble because the moxamp does this, however I don't want to buy the mixamp. Whenever I select 7.1 it doesn't outpit any sound on the headset only in stereo mode it outputs sound.

The mixamp makes it possible, you want 7.1, you buy the mixamp. Dig?

Its outputting in stereo because they are a stereo headphone, and they will output in stereo till the end of time.

I've had people make theres output digitial 7.1, it's digital so it's not true 7.1 even though the headsets themselves are stereo. I know it's possible just not sure how to do it with my specific sound card. Newegg even had a special on a combo of the A40's and the Sound Blaster Z a while back and everyone was buying those instead of the A40's and the mixamp if they were a PC gamer.

Only other options are Razer surround (free) or a soundcard with Dolby or similar (not free). Either way, you can never have true 7.1 in a headphone.

You need to use Dolby Headphone or set the game for Headphone or enable the "gaming" surround options in the Creative control panel. If youre still lost, read the manual :)

PC Audio Setup = Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80 ohm and Sennheiser pc37x (also for xbox) hooked up to Schiit Fulla 3
