I'm glad, Apple is finally going after the Android market. And no disrespect to the Droid fans, I just mean that there are phones that are much cheaper than the iPhone 5 running the software.

This news has been going around for a few years and we haven't' seen anything yet. Apple have said they will never make a cheaper iPhone, but they also said they'd never make a small tablet... Still I doubt this will ever happen.

It is definitely a good thing, if it ends up being true.  There have been reports talking about this type of iPhone for quite a while but it has never actually come out.  Apple would benefit from it if they did come out with this.

I don't care about a price of a phone, I care about the price for a data plan. and a 40 bucks a month plus text and talk from verizon smartphones are a no go for me. 

HOWEVER, as usual all the Apple fanboys are going to wet their pants.

It is still news though.  When something is announced or speculated upon based on something coming out, it is news whether it ends up being true or not.

I disagree, a rumour is just that, a rumour. They have no hard facts, so it's not news.

Then why does every Tech news site report on rumors.  And why do even regular news sources like CNN actually do segments or stories on rumors.  I think rumors are simply just accepted as news because they always have been.  Just how it is.

I've never understood the reason behind a cheap iPhone version because apple seems to support and the 3 most current iterations of iPhone, so why brother introducing another line of what are essentially older-gen phone when you can just support the older-gen phones from your current line-up.

Why would Apple spend the money to develop a cheaper iphone when they can just do what they do now and chop the price down on the old models? Low end smartphones is a race to the bottom and that means low profit margins, Apple is about high profit margins.
