So my friend was talking to me about DirectX 12, and he said it was rumored to enable all NVIDIA GPUs to work in tandem, or three way, even if they have different GPUs.

For example: With DirectX 12, I would be able to put my GTX 770 and GTX 550 Ti in SLI.

Any thoughts? Is this false?

While DX12 will enable these sorts of features (apparently) you can be pretty sure Nvidia isn't going to allow it. I doubt you'll be able to SLI different architectures together, or at least not with Nvidia.

Never heard of an API with that capability... :o

AMD already has such a thing implemented. You can use two different cards together, no issue. But, Nvidia won't be letting that happen.

The projects never end in my line of work.

i think it means that you can do a 290X and 970 in one config.

I can't see a 770 and a 550Ti working together though. NV never allowed it in the past so i can't see them allowing it now.

No you can't? Can you?

The 200 series are just rebrands..

I had a clue...but I would have thought Nvidia would have been all over this like a fly on feces. AMD are sneaky...

This is false, the only reason certain 200 series cards can work with certain 7000 series cards is because 200 series is mostly rebrands, therefore they have the same architecture, same GPU.

I should have gone in depth... you can use different cards in the same family.

I believe OP was referring to completely different architectures being used in multi-gpu.

Well... it depends. You can't necessarily crossfire / SLI them... but you can throw them in for compute operations, no problem.

I know, OP was asking if we though DX12 would allow people to put separate architectures in SLI.

Sorry I'm all over the place right now. So it's been rumored, you may be able to allow any cards from any brand to work together. Whether they allow that is doubtful.

Yeah, like a GTX 550 Ti and a GTX 770 in SLI.

Could you imagine how awesome that would be though?

This doesn't exactly have much to do with the topic here.  Don't get me wrong, it's freaking cool, but there's probably another thread for that.

Yeah I know,.. but I saw this yesterday, before anyone had made a thread on it,.. and didn't wanna make a thread myself,.. so I threw it in here... because thats where some DX12 talk was happening.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
